About Tan House Farm Bed and Breakfast

The breakfast          The History          The gardens

WE HAVE WELCOMED VISITORS TO TAN HOUSE FOR OVER 34 YEARS

Christie and Peter moved to Newland on Christmas Eve 1979. After some frantic fifteen months of major preparations and meanwhile surviving the great freeze of the winter of 1980/1, followed by the great thaw, the first residential courses were started in that March at Christie’s “Mediaeval Field Study Centre”. So began the tradition of guests arriving from all over the world and staying with us at Tan House. Peter offered to make breakfasts “for the first year” during the courses, his breakfasts 30+ years later are now well known and much praised. When in later years Christie worked intermittently abroad, and the children were away from home, Peter commenced a little Bed and Breakfast, if but for the company at breakfast! On Christie’s retirement the Bed and Breakfast has developed further in that now our guests have the best rooms.

May we say here, thank you to all of our visitors over the many years, it has been so interesting, as well as fun to meet you all!
